Nebraska Attorney General’s Office Media Advisory:
What: The Office of the Attorney General will announce a resolution to the case involving the murders of Lawrence I. Smoyer and William Wathen.
On Thursday, June 17, 1937, Boone County Sheriff Lawrence I. Smoyer and Boone County Constable William Henry Wathen were shot while investigating a suspicious vehicle and trespassing complaint in a cattle pasture 25 miles northwest of Albion, Nebraska.
In 2014, a joint investigation began involving the Office of the Attorney General and the Seward County Sheriff’s Office. This investigation has come to a close and the determination to declare its completion will be provided.
When: 1 pm Central Time, Tuesday, October 3, 2017
Where: The north entrance of the Boone County Courthouse, 222 S. 4th Street, Albion, Nebraska. In case of bad weather, the press conference will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 827 W Columbia St #137, Albion, Nebraska.
