The Honorable David W. Urbom presided over a four-day jury trial in Frontier County District Court, which began on April 11, 2017. At the conclusion, Shawn Standiford, aged 38, was found guilty on all counts for which he was charged; two counts of Third Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class IIIA Felony, and one count of Child Abuse, also a Class IIIA Felony. Standiford could face a maximum of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine on each count.
Following a night of drinking in February 2015, the Defendant came home to his Curtis, Nebraska residence and entered the bedroom of the 11 year old victim several times, and on two of those occasions, sexually fondled her. Standiford was arrested in March of 2015.
Sentencing is set for June 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in the Frontier County District Court.
Assistant Attorneys General Bill Tangeman and Jason Bergevin prosecuted the case. The Frontier County Sheriff’s Office, and Investigator Kerry Crosby with the Nebraska Department of Justice, investigated the case, and Ellen Reilly, with the Nebraska Department of Justice, coordinated victim/witness assistance.
